Round Pixel

Two kinds of software.

Creative apps for people making something, and productivity apps for people getting something done. They sound like different businesses. They aren't — both are about giving one person a tool that fits their hand.

Creative

Apps for consumers who want to make something — an image, a video, a piece of writing, a small design. Not professional suites with a thousand panels, and not one-tap filters that make every result look the same. The interesting space is in between: tools with enough depth that what you produce is genuinely yours, and enough restraint that you can use them on a phone, in a few minutes, without reading a manual.

Creative software is where the difference between a good tool and a bad one is most obvious to the person holding it. A control that responds the moment you touch it, an undo you can trust, a result that looks the way it did in the preview — none of that shows up in a feature list, and all of it decides whether the app gets opened a second time.

Productivity

Apps for people working on their own, and for small teams who work closely enough that they don't need a permissions matrix to get through the day. Most productivity software is designed for large organisations and then thinned out for everyone else, which is why so much of it feels like paperwork. We are interested in the opposite direction: build for the individual first, then let a handful of people share it without the tool changing shape.

That means fast entry, sensible defaults, and no setup ritual before the app is useful. A tool that requires a weekend of configuration has already cost more than it will save.

Platforms

We build native apps for Apple platforms — iPhone first, with iPad and Mac where a larger screen genuinely changes what the app can do rather than just stretching it. Native means the app follows the conventions of the system it runs on, launches quickly, works offline where it reasonably can, and behaves the way the rest of the device behaves.

Principles

  • Small and finished — a narrow tool that is complete beats a broad one that is perpetually half-built.
  • Private by default — we do not build products whose business model requires knowing things about the people using them.
  • Fast — responsiveness is a feature, and it is the first one people notice missing.
  • Honest about scope — we would rather say an app doesn't do something than pretend it does.

Status

Round Pixel is early. Our first applications are in development and none have been released yet — when they are, they will be listed on this page with a description of what each one does and its own privacy policy.
